Where Extraction Actually Happens
The basket holds your coffee and controls where the water goes. It's the least glamorous part of an espresso setup and one of the most consequential — which is why replacing a stock basket with a precision one is among the cheapest meaningful upgrades available.
Precision Manufacturing
IMS is the Italian manufacturer most professional machines rely on for filtration components. Every hole is laser-drilled to a consistent size and spacing, so water passes through the puck evenly rather than finding weak points.
Ridgeless Design
Without the internal ridge found on stock baskets, the basket seats and releases more easily, and a full-diameter tamper can reach the edges properly. Less friction, cleaner tamping.
Convex Base
The subtle curve at the base directs flow toward the centre of the puck, encouraging uniform extraction and reducing the chance of channelling at the edges.
Capacity: 18–20g
The standard range for a modern double shot. Enough headroom to adjust dose to the bean without crowding the shower screen.
Compatibility
Fits 58mm portafilters — E61 group heads, La Marzocco, and most professional and prosumer machines.
What Changes in the Cup
- Consistent extraction — even flow means repeatable shots
- Balanced flavour — less of the harshness that comes from channelling
- Better crema — a direct result of proper extraction
- More control — when the basket is consistent, changes you make are the only variable
Common Questions
Do I need a specific tamper?
A 58mm tamper works. With a ridgeless basket, a tamper matching the internal diameter closely gives the most even compression.
How do I care for it?
Rinse after each use. Soak periodically in an espresso cleaning solution to clear oil buildup — clogged holes defeat the purpose of a precision basket.
